Reaching Financial Goals

Many parents have to choose whether it makes sense financially to send their kids to daycare while both parents work. Often, the costs of daycare are so high, that having two working parents does not make sense.  We at Doma Daycare think this is tragic. If you have kids and want to earn money from home while taking care of your own kids, Doma Daycare is perfect for you.

Most of our Doma Daycare providers have between 5-10 kids in their homes, although they choose how many to take care of. Most of our providers have the kids for full days, from 8 to 5, but again providers get to choose the schedule and hours. Big box daycare centers typically charge $800 – $1,200 per month per child in the 0-5 age group. At Doma, our providers set their own rates within a window that Doma Daycare allows depending on the home. Typically, our providers charge $400-$700 per child, which is about half of traditional big box centers.

Here is our most common situation – Parents have three kids and want to earn extra income but daycare is too expensive. While one parent works outside the home, the other decides to open a Doma Daycare and average $600 per child per month, and takes care of 10 kids, totaling $6,000 per month.  Mom can also watch her own three kids at the same time. Generally, states require in-home daycare providers to have an extra set of hands to watch so many kids, so mom hires her friend to assist. Doma Daycare helps that person become trained as well.  The homeowners are able to write off food as a tax deduction, and also a portion of their mortgage as a business. After fees and costs, homeowners typically net about $3,500 to $4,000 a month totaling $42,000-$48,000 a year in extra income, all by taking care of kids at home.

On the flip side, we also see parents that would like to work outside the home but daycare is too expensive for both parents to do that.  Well, what if the cost of daycare was half than what you expected? Without expensive real estate, the cost of daycare plunges. Parents can still find a reliable daycare with trained and licensed staff that has a backbone with infrastructure and technology, but at half the price. This allows more parents to work outside the home while not breaking the bank on daycare. It is a win-win.
